Shall the Tour Makers be rewarded??
The motivation of the Tour Makers is priceless. The Tour Makers will not be rewarded financially, but the organization will grant a daily flat-rate expenses allowance. Besides an unforgettable experience, Tour Makers can keep the official uniform worn during their shift.
What will the main duties of the Tour Makers be??
The Tour Makers will welcome, help and inform all visitors and residents of the exceptional context of the Grand Départ. They will be hosts and hostesses of the event, they will inform about the program of the Grand Départ, they will help visitors find their itinerary and will be at supporter’s disposal along the tracks of both stages 6th and 7th of July.
How to become a Tour Maker ?
Do you wish to take part in this incredible adventure? Take note of the Belgian Legislation concerning the rights of volunteers [loi du 3 juillet 2005 relative aux droits des volontaires / wet van 3 juli 2005 betreffende de rechten van vrijwilligers), send us your application and register via this link: http://tourmakers.brusselsgranddepart.com. I already registered to be a Tour Maker. When can I expect more information??
Thursday 28th of March 2019, exactly 100 days before the Grand Départ, the City of Brussels will launch a countdown. From that date onwards, a series of events and activities will be hosted in the spirit of the Grand Départ together with bike movement to promote the bicycle and its means as a soft transport mode in an urban environment. Together these gatherings will also contribute to the realization of a real team spirit amongst the Tour Makers. As from the beginning of March, more precise information will be communicated on 1) the duties of the Tour Makers during the events organized before July 1st and 2) the implication of the Tour Makers from July 1st till July 7th, during the week of the Grand Départ.
I am a course marshal and would like to register as a Tour Maker. How can I do this??
You can’t register individually as a marshal Tour Maker. All applications of marshal Tour Makers will be organized via marshal clubs recognized in the Belgian cycling world. If your club is not yet in contact with the organization of the Grand Départ, please send an email to for more information.
What is the minimum age to register as a Tour Maker ?
A Tour Maker has to be at least 16 years old. Certain assignments will imply a minimum age of 18 years old.
How long will a shift of a Tour Maker last??
We will try to limit the shifts to a maximum of 6 hours.
Will we be able to choose our assignment/shift??
During your registration, your preferences will be asked and those will be taken into account, as much as possible. Attention! There will be a lot of Tour Makers, so it won’t be possible to consider every individual request.
What are the principal assets to become a Tour Maker??
Knowledge of multiple languages acquired experience during previous sport events and your profound local knowledge of Brussels are undeniable assets. But before all else, your enthusiasm, your professionalism and your skills to welcome and host visitors and their questions with a never-failing smile, will be of priority. These qualities are indispensable to create a friendly, stress free and easy-going spirit and will strongly contribute to a positive experience for all visitors! And obviously, at the same time, the experience of the Tour Makers.
What about accommodation possibilities for Tour Makers??
Tour Makers who don’t live in Brussels or its surroundings, have to provide in their own accommodations. To have a better view on the diverse possibilities in Brussels, we suggest you consult the website of visit.brussels. A real gold mine!
Will a kilometric allowance be anticipated??
The organization will not be able to respond to every individual demand. Tourmakers will, on the other hand, be granted a daily flat-rate expenses allowance.
